Since Westland’s founding, One of our guiding principles has been to leave the world better than we found it. This not only reflects responsible citizenship but also reveals an essential truth about the timelines of our reality.

Whiskey is not an endeavor of years. It is one of generations.

What we are building today has long-term effects and implications for what comes next. We are forward-looking for our ambition and the relationships and infrastructure we need to ensure a viable future. For ourselves, our partners, our community, and our families, we fundamentally believe that how we do our work is just as important as the work we do. This means we must make decisions based on truth, ethos, and sustainability, not by what is easy or cheap, but by what is best for everyone in the long term. 

From the beginning, our mantra of “Thoughtfully Made” has been an honest throughline of intention. We are constantly looking to streamline and improve, make better decisions for the environment, and foster the relationships we depend on. This is true from how we source our materials, repurpose our spent grain, and nurture relationships with the farmers we work with. Understanding that all aspects of our business are interconnected and rooted in relationships and humanity, we believe everyone benefits when we work to improve the world for everyone involved. 

As a testament to our beliefs and efforts, in March of 2024, Westland officially achieved B Corp status. This means that we have been verified as meeting B Lab’s high social and environmental impact standards and that, as a company, Westland has made a legal commitment to outside stakeholder governance. We proudly meet our accountability and transparency requirements and confidently disclose our performance record in our public B Corp file.

While we have always been committed to accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement, being invited to join a movement dedicated to these principles is a distinct honor. This means that we are meeting our high standards and being recognized and held accountable by other companies who share our values. We count ourselves fortunate to keep such good company amongst other businesses and organizations within the B Corp community, and we find inspiration in the spirit of exploration and collective desire to go above and beyond what is expected in the effort to do right by the world. 

Our inclusion in the B Corp family is a meaningful step towards ensuring we continue to look towards the horizon of what it means to be a whiskey company and responsible citizens for today, tomorrow, and future generations. Together, we look, Ever Foward.
